Go wild into the wild on our Great Migration Safari

We ride free through the great plains of the Masai Mara in search of the wild beasts that roam this landscape untouched. You really don't know what you'll see…a hunt, a feast, or perhaps even some sexy time for the animals. Hakuna Matata, this is wild Africa at its greatest and we're exploring it all while also getting some workouts and drinks in the books too! This is not our first time, so we've got all the spots you wanna hit up, including: Elephant Orphanage, Giraffe Centre, a few museums, Lake Naivasha, Hells Gate National Park, the vast Masai Mara and all the local spots in between. Wake up to the roar of lions and see the sunrise over the beautiful African plains. Get your morning started with a safari through the open field alongside a parade of elephants as they graze a few feet away from our cruiser. Then, climb on the roof of an open 4x4 Land Cruiser as you watch a lioness and her baby cubs play under the shade in the warm afternoons. But be on the lookout for the Hippos as we take boat through Lake Nakuru. Yup, well you can imagine it all now, get ready to soak it all in. This trip is unreal, with an unreal squad. Sure you can do this trip with you family, but would they get litty at night and still be gung-ho for the early safaris? No... and that's why we exist...for YOU!

SELECT A DAY
An Intro to Nairobi

An Intro to Nairobi

We'll pick you up at the airport, check into our hotel, round up the troops and hit the nearby trails of The Nairobi Arboretum to shake off our flight legs. After lunch we take off to the Nairobi Safari Walk to see and learn about the animals of Kenya! Here we get our first feel for Kenya! But it's just the beginning.
Head back for a swim, a happy hour cocktail and of course our first group dinner together - welcome to Africa!

Elephants, Giraffes and Farm to Table

Elephants, Giraffes and Farm to Table

Early to rise, early to workout, early to eat because today's first stop is the Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage where we play, wash and maybe even adapt an elephant! After that it's straight to the Giraffe Centre where we hand feed these new long necked friends of ours.

We grab a local lunch and then off to a more historic excursion to the Karen Blixen Museum to see how the author of 'Out of Africa' really lived.

And to end our night we've set up a reservation at our favorite farm to table restaurant in all of Africa - Cultiva Farm Kenya. Everything we eat here is from their garden or the local organic farms, and it's a vibe... so it's time to get sexy.

Mountain Biking Safari

Mountain Biking Safari

We start the morning with an optional yoga session and after breakfast we take our 4x4 land cruisers to Lake Naivasha where our hotel where you'll see all the animals right in front of our rooms - so much so that we have security take us back to our rooms at night because hippos roam free here.

After our lunch, we take to explore Hell's Gate National Park - by mountain bike! Stepping out of the confines of the 4x4 and really getting to know this incredible landscape and it's animals. This is the place where we see the ridge that Simba's father was killed on in 'Lion King'... ya it's a real place.

At home, sample beautifully made local cuisines as we share stories of the days adventures over drinks!

Boat Tour in Hippo Town

Boat Tour in Hippo Town

We'll wake up early, get our sweat and breakfast on, then jump on a boat tour to Crescent Island to visit some resident hippos and fish eagles. Recharging on our 4-hour journey to Masai Mara, with a lunch stop at Narok (a hustlin' and bustlin' little town). Once in Masai Mara, it's time to grab our 4x4 to explore more undulating landscape, on our afternoon game drive. There's nothing quite like watching the sun go down and seeing the glow in a lions eyes. What a day!

Welcome to Masai Mara

Welcome to Masai Mara

Rise and shine, today is an ALL DAY EXCURSION through the wild Masai Mara! As we drive off trails, our drivers hunt for the wild animals in this incredibly vast wild park (583 mi² to be precise). Watching out for the well known predators, and their opponents like the Zebra, Wildebeest, Giraffe, Hippo...and the dangerous Crocodiles with a visit to the Mara river. All our guests say this day feels like a dream as we make a picnic lunch under a tree overlooking the plains. You'd better have backup batteries for that camera because we'll continue through hunting for a glimpse into the wild animals lives.

BUT our day isn't over yet. As we head out of the park, just alongside it is where we will visit a local Masai Mara village, get a tour (all proceeds go to their community), dance, and even have a chance to purchase gifts from them.

Then it's off to our camp, a big dinner, a few drinks and a good night's sleep.

Hot Air Balloon The Masai Mara

Hot Air Balloon The Masai Mara

Gooood Morning - we wake up at 4:30am, the air is crisp, temperature still cool and long before the sun rises. We drive deep into the Masai Mara and watch our hot air balloon get inflated. And as we start to rise so does the sun... if you are looking for one of the most magical moments of your life - this is it. The sun is rising, you're way above the plains, elephants grazing, lions hunting, but all we hear is beautiful silence. Wow.

Once we land, it's bottomless champagne breakfast on the same plains where the lions were just hunting, don't worry we have security watching our backs. Once we've intoxicated.. I mean indulged, we do our morning Safari. The park unbelievably large and there are so many places to explore.

Back at the camp, we prepare for our last night of festivities and a themed party!

Back to Nairobi

Back to Nairobi

After an easy wake up, big workout, and even bigger breakfast as we begin to pack and slowly depart the Masai Mara and head across acres of rolling wheat and barley farms to Narok. From there we'll cross the vast plains of the Rift Valley whilst keeping an eye our for herds of giraffe and gazelle. We'll arrive into Kenya's bustling capital city, Nairobi, around 5pm.

This is a 4-5 hour drive and we'll have lunch stops with a last chance to purchase souvenirs. We'll have transportation leaving earlier for anyone on flights that require you to be there at 1pm the earliest.

Please check the FAQ, but we recommend the 11:35pm flight for our NYC family.

Until next time... or until we throw our next party because this friendship just started!

My trip to Kenya with @surfyogabeer was truly a trip of a lifetime, and something I feel beyond lucky to have experienced. I know people say that about every trip they go on, but this really was IT. The land, the people, the animals, the culture…it was beyond comparison, a perfect storm of ingredients bottled up into what can only be described as life changing. It’s been about a month since I returned, and @kenfrancisphotos just dropped these EPIC photos that capture the experience better than any words ever could. Thank you Ken for your skill and special magic that bleeds into each and every shot! Thank you @mantaszvinas for spending three years planning the greatest experience EVER. And thank you to friends new and old who traveled the country with me and made this trip what it was. 🧡

It’s been a couple of weeks since I got back from the @surfyogabeer trip to Kenya, but we just got a heap of incredible photos by @KenFrancisPhotos. Lookin’ through ‘em helped me relive many, many rad memories - from drinking champagne in the middle of the Masai Mara reserve after landing there in a hot air balloon and visiting the canyon where Mufasa fell into a stampede…. to jumping contests with the local tribesmen and workout sessions everywhere in between.

Holding up the rear and taking in the views! One of the many unexpected lessons I learned at #SYBKenya was that life is sweeter when you take it at your own pace, enjoy the ride, and make friends on the way! This was one of my favorite days and the best part was that I decided not to go hard, but to ride slowly and take in every moment. What a ride! Shout out to my gals holding up the back. We did that. @surfyogabeer

If you arrive anytime after 2pm inform us since we'll be exploring Nairobi!

We're staying the first 2 nights in Nairobi so even if you get delayed by a day you'll be ok to join us for the safari. After that it might be a bit harder to catch up to our group.

NYC friends, we recommend taking flight KQ 3 departing JFK Saturday, July 13th at 1:45pm nonstop to NBO arriving 10:30am July 14th.

COMING HOME
We will be arriving at Nairobi after 6pm, thus recommend getting a later flight. If you need to fly out earlier, no problem, we'll have one of our transport take you back to Nairobi at earliest by 1pm.

NYC friends, we recommend taking flight KQ 2 departing NBO Saturday, July 20th at 11:35pm nonstop to JFK arriving at 6:35am July 21st.

We're staying at these incredible hotels:

  • Radisson Blu Hotel & Residence, Nairobi Arboretum
  • Lake Naivasha SOPA Lodge
  • Masa Mara SOPA Lodge

Check out the full SYB Guide HERE

We begin this adventure in Nairobi, so fly into Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO).

Nairobi is Kenya's capital city and is unique because, alongside its urban core, Nairobi is home to a game reserve known for breeding endangered back rhinos and home giraffes. Nearby is a world-renowned elephant orphanage!

Hell's Gate National Park lies near Lake Naivasha. Famous for its game drives, it is common to see an abundance of hippopotamus, bird species and other incredible species!

Masai Mara is a national game reserve hosting a large region of protected land along the Tanzanian border. Its animals include lions, cheetahs, elephants, zebras and hippos.

The Kenyan landscapes leave much to be explored!

This is needed to enter Kenya for everyone!

Our Hotel: Raddison Blu

Hotel Phone: +254 (Kenya) 709810000

Email: info.nairobi@radissonblu.com

We'll be riding in 4x4 land cruisers the whole adventure. They are 7-seaters, our drivers also double as our guides, speak English and have plenty of stories and jokes to tell on our long journeys.

If you choose this adventure, we're waking up at 4:30am, going deep into the Masai Mara, launching the balloon just before the sun rises and as we rise above the great plains so does the sun... welcome to the most magical moment of your life.

We will be visiting with permission a local Masai Mara tribe, we've paid them to do this and we make sure the proceeds go directly to the community as a whole. There is also a market they set up just for our visit where we can directly buy their handmade products.

Yellow Fever Vaccine

This is not required, but highly recommended. Yellow fever is a viral infection that occurs in Africa and South America. Most people begin to develop immunity within ten days of vaccination and 99 percent are protected within one month, and this appears to be lifelong.

Anti Malarial Medication

This is not required, but highly recommended. CDC recommends that travelers going to certain areas of Kenya take prescription medicine to prevent malaria. Depending on the medicine you take, you will need to start taking this medicine multiple days before your trip, as well as during and after your trip. Talk to your doctor about which malaria medication you should take. If your doctor prescribed antimalarial medicine for your trip, keep taking the rest of your pills after you return home. If you stop taking your medicine too soon, you could still get sick.

REPELLENT

An insect repellent will help protect you from mosquitoes that spread malaria and other diseases, such as dengue, chikungunya, and Yellow fever. You can use an insect repellent on your skin and clothes to keep away (repel) insects. Lemon eucalyptus oil is good one.

Please see and ask your doctor about traveling to Kenya and it's remote regions.

Please do not wait until the last minute, some medicine requires to be taken one week before travel.

Also here are useful government websites:

https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/destinations/traveler/none/kenya

https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/kenya/health

You'll want to wear light clothes for the day and warm layers for the evenings, because morning game drives in open vehicles will be cold! Remember you'll be traveling a lot too, so try to minimize to a few really solid outfits.

If you need some inspiration just google 'safari outfits' and pick up something nice so our photographer can capture your best looks for your grandmother.

Plan that you won't be doing any washing. We're heading to remote regions of Kenya. Of course a few hotels will provide washing services, but you can definitely count on additional costs if they do have this service.

After a late night, you may not want to wake up and join us for a workout, but we highly suggest it! Included in your trip, the boot camps and yoga sessions keep us energized - there is nothing better than waking up and sweating with your new friends! Our world-class trip leaders know how to start your day the best way, with a good workout to prime us for a day of adventuring.

This experience is included in trip fees.

Usually we say 'no need to whip out your phone or camera at any point throughout this trip because we have got you covered' but if you've ever wanted to try out photography this is the place of photographic dreams! Otherwise, we will have a professional photographer and videographer joining us on this trip to capture every moment. These will be the best travel photos and videos you will ever get - you're friends better be ready for a photo dump out of their wildest dreams!!

This experience is included in trip fees.

The shilling is the currency of Kenya. However, USD is widely accepted. It is common to bring a Mastercard or Visa as they are commonly accepted in Kenya.

We suggest withdrawing money before coming to Kenya, as ATMs are available, but you may be charged a withdrawal fee.

We suggest bringing $300 to $400 to use at bars and a few of our dinners, as well as a credit card, to be safe, but otherwise, we've got you covered!

We highly recommend you get travel and/or medical insurance. This is just for emergencies or unforeseen circumstances.

Tourist areas of Kenya, where SYB travels, is incredibly safe. However, it is important to note that the US has a travel advisory for the country, which is a blanket warning as areas of the country experience higher levels of crime. However, we will not be going to those places, so these concerns should be noted but do not apply to us.

Still, as a precautionary measure, our accommodations will have safes for us to leave our valuables. We suggest leaving all important items in the safe while exploring - but maybe keep your Yeezys and nice jewelry at home!

We're staying at the Radisson Blu in Nairobi and at the SOPA lodges Lake Naivasha and Masai Mara.
