Surf Yoga Beer, NYE 2022
Surf Yoga Beer, NYE 2022
Your flight needs to arrive before 2pm at Managua International Airport to make the SYB bus transfer to Playa Maderas from Managua, it's about a 2 1/2 hour drive.
We'll get to know each other and our amazing location. Dinner is served at 9pm, dancing is rampant, and lights go low and the disco balls come out. Where this night takes you is your story, but this is just day 1.
WORKOUT AND SURF
Get ready to experience SYB to it's fullest. We begin with wake up calls, more on this later, go straight into morning workouts, beach games, a dip in the ocean to clean up, and a hearty breakfast all before it's even 9am.
We'll take a chill moment to soak everything by the pool and later head to beach for surf lessons, tacos, a cold beer and a lot of good laughs with your new friends. Save some energy for an epic sunset yoga session and then to our open bar happy hour by the pool!
This is the night we head into town for dinner, bring your dancing shoes, or wait it's a beach town, shoes are not necessary!
SURF YOGA BEER
Similar to yesterday, just different workouts. After breakfast we walk down the beach to our surf lessons part two. Today we focus on surfing, standup paddle boarding, and anything water related! Options for those who are looking for a more serious work include a group trail run and circuit training at the jungle gym.
We head back to our house yoga deck overlooking that same break we were just surfing on and enjoy a sunset yoga session. This is where the magic happens. Some of us will probably just be enjoying the sunset with delicious drinks in hand.
We'll be visiting SJDS today, where we'll explore the famous Jesus statue, local shops, and dinner will be on your own in town.
We take in a full morning of workouts then make our way to the marina for a full day on a catamaran. This is truly one of the highlights of this trip as we head to a white sand beach to snorkel, enjoy fresh food on the boat and enjoy drinks sailing into the sunset.
Dinner will be at our spot, believe us we've earned this grub today!
Sleep in friends, we know last night was crazy. We'll start the day at 10am. But once we start, we don't stop - morning workouts, surf, pool time, sunset viewing deck yoga, and for our last night of 2021 we have a few surprises!
We'll wake up to a new year and new habits! We'll give you some time to recover but then straight into our workouts, yoga and salt water ocean therapy! We'll do some life reflection exercises to help set the right path for a new year!
As the sun drops, we pull out the yoga mats to stretch our sore bodies and take our practice to a deeper level...this is where magic truly happens.
This is our last night, so we'll do our awards, feast together and take it out with bang!
BACK TO REALITY
Everyone will be checking out at 8am and be taking the SYB van to Managua airport, choose a flight that departs after 12 noon.

“💗💗💗 I’ve thought about going on a fitness or yoga retreat for maybe 5 years now 👉🏻I never signed up because I was always nervous to go alone not knowing anyone... I finally signed up for my first @surfyogabeer trip this summer thanks to @whatleahloves. If you’re thinking of signing up for a fitness or yoga retreat alone DO. IT. Trust me 😜 You’ll meet some truly amazing people. ”
“There was #sybnicaragua, but there was also M***** F****** BOAT DAY! @martin.straschnoy with the 📷 work”
“Been surfing a handful and could barely stand up, such a tough sport! Thanks to @surfyogabeer and their instructors not only could I stand but I rode some pretty decent waves! Now I’m definitely looking forward to my next surf trip! And special thanks to @martin.straschnoy for the amazing shot!🤙🏄♂️🌊!”
“Thank you, surf yoga beer, for affording me the opportunity to experience the most memorable and re-energizing adventure of my life. Although only spending 1 week together, I felt like I've known this group of amazing people forever, and the bonds we made will last for years to come.”
“Forever a child of the tide”
“Sunset by San Juan del Sur”
“There are so many things to be grateful for this year. Learning how to ride the waves, celebrate the wins, and learn from the losses. I'm immensely thankful for everything that surrounds me today and excited for what's on the horizon for tomorrow. ”
“An amazing trip with amazing friends”
“Sky above. Earth below. Peace within. ”
“Post surf, pre yoga pinas ✔️”
“Cheeky surf in the morn and I couldn’t be happier. 🏄🏻♀️ But also my arm won’t fit around the board 😂”
“✨#tbt to earlier this month when my biggest stress was choosing between a ordering a fish taco or a chicken taco 🌮 for lunch on the beach 🙄 Also I got no cute social distancing pics to share, so more #SYBnicaragua content it is 😂 . The truth is I am not sure what to and not to say right now 🙊 In general, I try to keep things positive ☀️ but at the same time, I like to keep things real. . The realness: it’s been quite the fucking week 🤷♀️ I’m sure you can all agree whether you’re working from home right now, unemployed 🙋♀️ or still have to go to work as if nothing has changed. It’s been a wild, wild week.”
Where Are We Staying?
Safety and Security in the Region
Can You Handle It?
To join our trip you will need to present a negative covid test at most 72-hours prior to joining our group. This is also required to enter Nicaragua.
We're taking over several hotels in Playa Maderas, Nicaragua. This is a remote beach town about 20 minutes away from San Juan Del Sur the closest port town.
Selina Maderas (Maderas 200mts north of Empalme Marsella San Juan del Sur, 48600, Nicaragua)
Villas Playa Maderas (10 Km north, San Juan del Sur 48600, Nicaragua)
The trip officially starts 6pm on Dec 27th.
We recommend you fly into Managua Airport (Augusto Cesar Sandino International Airport, MGA).
If you're flying from NYC we recommend booking directly through Avianca airlines, and flying Dec 27th at 3:05am from JFK arriving at 8:40am to MGA.
If you're flying from Miami we recommend booking directly through Avianca airlines, and flying Dec 27th at 1:45pm from MIA arriving at 3:20pm to MGA.
We'll have SYB leaders at the airport to greet you and the SYB bus will have two departures, the first around 10-11am and the second round around 4-5pm.
Departure will have two options, an extremely early morning bus at 2:00am, arriving at the airport at 4:30am and the other leaving at 8:30am, arriving at the airport at 11am.
These are subject to change as we'll calculate everyone's flight times to make the best transfer schedule.
Do not worry if you get different flight times, we'll set you up with transportation services that are safe, reliable and fairly priced.
We'll ask you 4-weeks prior to the trip to 'check-in' within the booking account where we collect your flight info, passport info, etc.
We'll be doing some adventures throughout this trip that require a bit of self awareness of the surrounding area. Remember this is the jungle.
Dehydration is a common cause of feeling unwell. We require everyone to bring their own refillable water bottle and drink lots of water.
Avoid drinking too much alcohol. Of course you will want to enjoy a few beers and try some of the local rum around the first night, however don't make yourself a liability. Nobody wants to have to look after a drunk person. Tropical hangovers are a nightmare and you don't want to miss out on the day activities if you are trying to recover from the night before!
Your skin will burn easily in the tropics especially ya'll winter hybernating New Yorkers. Get the proper gear, and protection!
There has been no incidents that we've heard of or come across that would have us concerned. You are safe in the area and very safe if you stay with us, our accommodation is very secure and has several guards working 24/7.
DO NOT FLUSH ANY PRODUCTS, INCLUDING PAPER, DOWN THE TOILETS.
This is a third world country and the sewage is not the same as the US. There are waste baskets next to bathrooms, please use those.
This is a tropical beach adventure, not a yoga retreat or luxury travel experience. But our property is very beautiful with very comfortable and clean rooms. As we're in the middle of the jungle you'll have to keep an eye out for bugs, and spiders. As long as you keep the doors shut you should be good.
Almost everyday you can expect morning workouts, sunset yoga, beach run throughs, and fitness games. We'll be pairing that with big group dinners, nights out in town, and lots of dancing! You can always take it at your own pace, skip workouts or adventures and stay back at the house.
If you have an open mind and a sense of adventure we believe you can easily handle this adventure!
