Six days of ridgelines, cold water and light that will not quit

Fjord Almighty is Norway with the volume up. Six days walking between three fjord towns, from the ridgelines above Bergen to the narrowest fjord in the world to a valley they call Norway's Grand Canyon. You walk properly. Five to seven hours on the big days, real climbs, real weather, and a fjord sitting a thousand metres under you the whole way. Then you come down to a hot sauna, a cold fjord, a long dinner and light that hangs around until eleven at night. Bergen for two nights: cable car up Ulriken, the long ridge traverse across to Floyen, harbour sauna and a cold plunge, then out. Voss for two nights: gondola up the mountain, ridge walk back down, raft the river if you want it, everybody ends up in the lake. Aurland for two nights: sea kayaks on the Aurlandsfjord, the Stegastein platform hanging 650 metres over the water, and the long valley walk on the last full day. You get there and home on two of the best train rides on earth. Come on your own, like most people do. You will not leave that way.

Trip Notes

THE SHORT VERSION:

Seven days, six nights, three towns. Two nights in Bergen, two in Voss, two in the Aurland fjord valley. We move between them by train and by boat, not by sitting on a coach all day.

THE DAY BY DAY:

Day one you land in Bergen, ride the funicular up Floyen, wander the old wharf, and we do the welcome dinner. The sun sets at quarter to eleven.

Day two is the big Bergen day. Cable car up Ulriken, the long ridge over to Floyen, harbour sauna after.

Day three we take the Bergen Line through fjord country to Voss, then go straight up the gondola and walk a ridge back down.

Day four in Voss is pick your poison. Raft the river, get on the high ropes, or take the long hike. Everyone ends up in the lake.

Day five is the Naeroyfjord. We climb to a ledge above the narrowest fjord in the world, then sail the whole length of it to Flam.

Day six in Aurland you choose your day. The big valley walk, or sea kayaks and the Stegastein platform. Farewell dinner at the brewery.

Day seven we ride the Flam Railway and the mountain line back to Bergen and fly home.

Every single day is optional. Do all of it, or sleep in and meet us at lunch.

GETTING THERE:

Fly into Bergen Airport Flesland (BGO) on Saturday 29 May. Bergen connects easily through Oslo, Copenhagen, Amsterdam and London. Aim to land in the early afternoon. The airport light rail runs into the centre in about 25 minutes, and the welcome dinner is that evening.

COMING HOME:

On Friday 4 June we ride the Flam Railway up to Myrdal and the mountain line back down to Bergen, so you fly home out of BGO. Book an evening flight, or add a night in Bergen and fly out on the Saturday. Exact times land in your welcome pack once the rail schedules are released.

BETWEEN TOWNS:

All of it is included. Trains, the fjord cruise and the transfers to trailheads. You never need to book or pay for transport once you are with us.

Yes, and Bergen rewards it. It is a proper little city, seven mountains around a harbour, the best fish market in the country, and Bryggen, the old wooden wharf, which is UNESCO listed.

Book the extra night at our hotel directly and we will send you the details once you are booked in, so you wake up in the right place instead of stepping off a plane straight into day one.

Plans change, we get it. Cancel more than 45 days before the trip starts and 100% of what you've paid, deposit included, becomes trip credit you can use toward any SYB trip within 12 months.

To reserve your spot, a 20% deposit is required. It goes toward your total, and the remaining balance is due six weeks before the trip starts.

If you cancel within 45 days of departure, your payment is non-refundable and non-transferable. No exceptions, and we do not offer cash refunds for any reason.

Travel and medical insurance is required, and you must secure it before joining the program. It's the best way to protect your investment if life happens. Worth it.

Western Norway, the fjord country between Bergen and Aurland.

Bergen is the coastal city we start from. Wooden houses stacked under seven mountains, with a funicular and a cable car to get you on top of them.

Voss is the adventure town an hour and a half inland, sitting between a lake and a gondola, where Norwegians go to raft, ride and jump off things.

Aurland and Flam sit at the end of the Aurlandsfjord, an arm of the Sognefjord, right next to the Naeroyfjord, the narrowest fjord in the world and one of the most photographed places in Europe.

Saturday 29 May 2027 to Friday 4 June 2027. Seven days, six nights.

The trip starts in Bergen on the Saturday afternoon and finishes in Bergen on the Friday. Do not book a flight home before the evening of Friday 4 June.

Six breakfasts and four dinners are included, including the welcome dinner in Bergen and the farewell dinner at the brewery in Aurland.

Two dinners and four lunches in town are on you, on purpose. Half the fun of a Norwegian town is picking your own spot, and nobody wants to be marched into a group restaurant every single night.

Alcohol is not included. Norway is expensive for drinking, so budget for it. A beer out runs around 120 to 150 kroner.

Three hotels, one in each town, all central and all walkable.

Two nights in central Bergen, a short walk from Bryggen and the funicular. Two nights in Voss between the lake and the gondola. Two nights in the Aurland fjord valley, right on the water.

A shared spot is a bed in a twin or triple share with another SYB traveller of the same gender. A private spot is a room to yourself with an ensuite bathroom. Hotel names and addresses land in your welcome pack.

Broken in hiking shoes or trail runners with real grip. This is the one thing you cannot fake.

A properly waterproof jacket. Not water resistant, waterproof. Western Norway is one of the wettest places in Europe and the weather turns fast.

Layers rather than one big coat. A fleece or light down mid layer, a warm hat and gloves, and something that dries quickly. Late May on a ridgeline can be five degrees with wind even when the town below feels like summer.

Swimwear and a towel for the sauna and the cold plunge, sunglasses and sunscreen. The sun is up for nineteen hours and it burns.

A full packing list goes out in your welcome pack.

About as safe as travel gets. Norway sits at the top of almost every global safety and quality of life index, petty crime is rare, and the tap water and food standards are excellent.

The real risks here are outdoors, not human. Weather that changes fast, exposed ridgelines and cold water. That is exactly why every hike is led, why there is always a shorter option, and why we tell you what to pack. Follow your leaders and you will be fine.

Travel and medical insurance is required for this trip.

The currency is the Norwegian krone (NOK). Norway is close to cashless, so a card or your phone works everywhere, including trailhead kiosks and the smallest cafe in Aurland. You do not need to carry cash.

Use a card with no foreign transaction fees, and when a terminal asks, always choose to be charged in kroner rather than dollars.

Norway is expensive. That is not a surprise, it is the country. Budget for four lunches, two dinners and drinks. A beer out is around 120 to 150 kroner and a casual lunch around 200 to 250.

Norwegian tap water is some of the best in the world and it is free everywhere. Bring a reusable bottle and fill it at the hotel, at the trailhead, at the station.

Up on the mountain you can drink from most running streams above the tree line, and your leaders will tell you which ones. It tastes better than anything you can buy.

Hydration is what keeps the energy up across back to back hiking days. Drink more than you think you need.

We take Norway on its own terms. Bryggen and the fish market in Bergen, the Bergen Line and the Flam Railway, two of the great rail journeys anywhere, and a UNESCO listed fjord we sail the full length of.

There is a sauna and a cold plunge on the fjord, which is the most Norwegian thing you will do all week, a brewery dinner in Aurland, and evenings where the light simply refuses to go away. Late May gives you around nineteen hours of daylight and a sunset that runs towards midnight.

After a late night, you might not feel like getting up for a workout, but we highly suggest you do. Bootcamps and yoga sessions are included and keep the energy high all week. There’s nothing better than waking up and sweating it out with your new friends.

Our world-class trip leaders know exactly how to kickstart your day, setting you up for a full day of adventure. Personalized butt kicking and soul grounding are all part of the experience.

Personalized butt kicking and soul grounding is all included.

Absolutely, and we actually recommend it.This trip is your chance to show up as your truest, most adventurous self. No baggage, no expectations, no old routines. When you come solo, you open yourself up to deeper connections, new experiences, and a crew that becomes instant family. We totally get that it can feel intimidating at first but trust us, this is the best way to do it. Most of our guests come solo, and by day one, you won’t feel that way anymore.

Yes. You can leave your phone in your bag and stay present while a professional photographer and videographer capture every moment. From sunrise workouts to beach adventures and late-night laughs, you’ll get high-quality content without lifting a finger.

And yes, it’s all included in your trip. Your post-trip photo dump is going to break the group chat.

This experience is included in trip fees.

This is a hiking trip, so yes, you should be able to walk. The big days are four to six hours with real climbing in them, and on most of them a cable car or a gondola does the hardest part of the ascent for you.

You do not need to be a mountaineer. If you can walk for a few hours and you are willing to be a bit uncomfortable for twenty minutes at a time, you will be fine, and the views do most of the work.

Every day is optional and every day has a shorter version. On the pick your poison days you choose your own level. Nobody gets left behind and nobody gets dragged up a mountain they did not want to climb.

Our leaders are trained for this. They carry the first aid kit, they know when to turn a group around, and they keep the energy high while making sure everyone feels safe and supported.
