Top 3 iconic moments

Three things you will do on this trip that you will still be talking about years later.

01SurfYogaBeer guest surfing at Playa Maderas in NicaraguaIn depth surf lessons

Two sessions a day at Playa Maderas with the local crew we have worked with for over ten years. They film you, sit you down with the footage, give you one thing to fix, then send you back out. Standing up for the first time or refining a turn, you leave a genuinely better surfer.

02SurfYogaBeer crew on a catamaran off the Nicaraguan coastCatamaran to Playa Blanca

Sail the coastline out to a hidden white sand cove. Swim, snorkel, eat, drink and laugh with nobody else in sight. Just your crew, water you can see straight through and a stretch of beach that should not still be this empty.

03Sunset yoga on a deck overlooking the Pacific in NicaraguaSunset yoga over the Pacific

Every evening ends with yoga on the deck. Jungle behind you, ocean in front, sky doing something absurd. These are the ten minutes people describe first when someone asks them about the trip.

📅 The Day By Day

Six days, planned so you never have to think about it.

Hilltop villa above the beach at Playa Maderas, Nicaragua
Day 1Arrival day

Land by 2pm, van to Playa Maderas, welcome dinner.

The full day

Your flight needs to land by 2pm to make the SYB van transfer to Playa Maderas from either Managua in Nicaragua or Liberia in Costa Rica. It is about a three hour drive, and from Costa Rica that includes a border crossing. You arrive at our hilltop villas looking down over the beach. Settle in, explore, then a welcome dinner and orientation where we talk through your surf goals for the week.

Day 2Surf and workout

First session to read your surfing, then video and go again.

The full day

Wake up calls and straight into your first surf session so we can see where you are and set goals for the week. Then your first personalised lesson on technique and positioning. In the afternoon we sit down with the video from your session and give you something concrete to fix, then back in the water for session two.

Day 3Surf, yoga, beer

Two sessions, video review, yoga, jungle gym, salsa lesson.

The full day

Surf session, then a lesson built around whatever you are working on. After lunch we review the footage and pick the thing to fix. We squeeze in a yoga class and a jungle gym session, then back out to practise what you just learned. Tonight our salsa teacher comes by to sort out your hips.

Aerial view of a white sand cove on the Nicaraguan coast
Day 4Catamaran day

A full day on the boat, then San Juan del Sur for karaoke.

The full day

Usual morning workout and surf session, then down to the marina for a full day on a catamaran. It is one of the highlights of the trip: a white sand beach, snorkelling, fresh food on the boat and drinks while we sail into the sunset. Pack a change of clothes, because dinner is in San Juan del Sur and karaoke is happening whether your voice is ready or not.

Day 5Full SYB day

One last surf, the closing ceremony and the awards.

The full day

Time to show what you picked up. One final surf session, then a video analysis to see how far you got. We celebrate the work with a closing ceremony, then sunset yoga on the viewing deck, and for the last night together, the SYB awards ceremony.

Day 6Back to reality

Check out at 8am, van to the airport, group chat forever.

The full day

Everyone checks out at 8am and takes the SYB van to Managua or Liberia, so pick a flight that leaves after noon. Until next time, or until the next party, because this friendship only just started.

Every day is planned for you. Nothing to book, nothing to organise.

🛌Where you sleep

Three private villas on a jungle cliff, with the surf right below your porch.

Our home is Villas Playa Maderas, three private villas on a jungle cliff about 100 feet above the sand, dead center of the Playa Maderas bay, with Maderas Rock sitting right in front of you.

You check the waves from the porch with your coffee, then take the private stairs straight down to the lineup. Infinity and plunge pools for between sessions, monkeys cruising past like they pay rent, and a bed with A/C when your arms are done. You unpack once.

FAQs

Because it’s the classic SYB Nicaragua week with a deeper dive into surfing.

You surf twice a day at Playa Maderas with the local crew we have worked with for over ten years. They film you, review the footage with you, and give you one thing to fix before the next session.

Around the surf you get workouts, jungle gym sessions, sunset yoga, and a catamaran day. It’s beginner friendly, and you leave a better surfer.

All of our Nicaragua trips happen in the same place, but each one has a different focus.

Surf Camp is the most surf-focused option. You’ll still get workouts and group energy, but more time is dedicated to improving your surfing and being in the water.

SurfYogaBeer (classic trip) is the best balance. You get surf, workouts, yoga, social events, and a bit of everything.

New Year’s Eve (NYE) is our biggest, most high-energy trip of the year. Same core structure, but with a larger group, more parties, and a big focus on celebrating going into the new year.

Reset & Recharge is the most wellness-focused. Think slower mornings, more yoga, more recovery, and a bit less emphasis on nightlife. It’s still social, just more grounded.

No matter which one you choose, you’ll be staying in the same villas with the same team.

Yes, and most people do.

You’re training together, surfing together, and eating together, so it doesn’t take long before it feels like you came with a group.

People who want a mix of movement, connection, and a good time.

Typically:

  • Late 20s to 40s (sometimes 50s)
  • Active, but not extreme
  • Social, open, and easygoing

It’s a very approachable crowd.

Yes.

You surf twice a day, with morning beach workouts, jungle gym sessions, and yoga around it.

You can go all in or scale it back, but you will definitely be moving.

Relaxed, social, and focused on surfing.

Days are built around two surf sessions and video review, with time by the pool in between. Nights are beach bonfires, themed parties, and a karaoke night in San Juan del Sur.

Everything is centered around Playa Maderas.

You’ll stay in a group of nearby villas just steps from the beach, with access to:

  • Surf breaks
  • Beach workouts
  • Town nearby

It’s one home base for the whole week.

With us, it is.

We’ve been running trips to Nicaragua since 2016 and have never had any safety issues. We work with the same trusted local team, drivers, and surf partners who know the area extremely well.

You’ll be staying in a gated villa community with 24/7 security, and everything from airport pickup to daily activities is organized in advance.

From the moment you land, you’re taken care of and moving as part of the group.

Yes.

We have a photographer and videographer on the trip, and you get personal surf photos from your sessions.

If you want to learn to surf or get better at it, stay active, and meet new people in a relaxed setting, then yes.

If you’re looking for something very quiet or fully independent, it might not be the right fit.
