Top 3 iconic moments

Three things you will do on this trip that you will still be talking about years later.

01SurfYogaBeer crew in all white on the dance floor at the New Year party in NicaraguaAll white New Year’s Eve party

It starts on the beach as the sun drops, espresso martini in hand, watching the bonfire get lit and the fireworks go up as the sky turns over. Then the party moves to the pool, the DJ gets louder, and eventually everybody is in the water.

02Sunset yoga on the deck at Playa Maderas, NicaraguaSunset yoga and reset

There is something about this time of year when reflection takes over. A ridiculous sunset over the water from our yoga deck, your body finally letting go in a deep pose, and it lands harder than usual. Add the SYB connection exercises and you leave properly charged for the new year.

03Catamaran anchored off Playa Blanca in NicaraguaBoat day to Playa Blanca

We cruise the coastline on a private catamaran to a cove with the whitest sand in Nicaragua. Swim in water you can see the bottom of, lie on the sand, work through the food and drinks. No crowds, just us and a stretch of beach that should not be this empty.

📅 The Day By Day

Seven days, planned so you never have to think about it.

SurfYogaBeer welcome party at the villa in Nicaragua
Day 1Arrival day

Land by 2pm, trail run, ocean, then the first happy hour.

The full day

Your flight needs to land by 2pm at Managua or Liberia to make the SYB bus transfers to Playa Maderas, about two and a half hours from Managua or three and a half from Liberia. Land later and we will connect you with a taxi company we trust. After check in we take a short trail run and jump in the ocean to wash off the flight. Then the open bar opens for the week with our first happy hour, some games to set the tone, and dinner around 8 or 9pm. The DJ plays, but tonight is an early one. This is only day one.

SurfYogaBeer group workout on the beach in Nicaragua
Day 2Workout and surf

Workouts, beach games, coconuts and breakfast, all before 9am.

The full day

Wake up calls, then straight into morning workouts, beach games, a dip in the ocean to clean up, fresh coconuts handed to you as you walk out of the water, and a proper breakfast, all before 9am. A chill hour by the pool, then surf, sunset yoga and the open bar happy hour. Tonight is the first theme party, and you get the theme three weeks out in the welcome guide. DJ, bartenders, and new best friends throwing you in the pool.

SurfYogaBeer crew on a catamaran off the Nicaraguan coast
Day 3Catamaran day

Jungle gym in the morning, private flotilla in the afternoon.

The full day

We start at the jungle gym, where TRX straps hang from the trees, calisthenic bars rise out of the ground, wooden weights wait to be lifted and turf runs underneath. Then to the marina, where a fleet of catamarans takes us out to Playa Blanca, a secluded cove with powder white sand and water clear enough to snorkel all afternoon. Ceviche, tropical fruit and an open bar keep it going.

SurfYogaBeer karaoke night in San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua
Day 4Yoga, surf, beer

Surf part two, then San Juan del Sur and private karaoke.

The full day

We open with a yoga session that everyone needs by now. After breakfast we walk down the beach for surf lessons part two, and today is all about the surfing and anything else in the water. If you want a harder day there is a group trail run and circuit training at the jungle gym. Later we head into San Juan del Sur, twenty minutes away, to see the Jesus statue and the local shops, and dinner is on your own in town. Then we meet at our private karaoke bar. Everyone is singing.

SurfYogaBeer group in all white raising a toast on New Year in Nicaragua
Day 5New Year's Eve

A slower start, then all white, bonfire and fireworks.

The full day

Sleep in, we know what the last couple of nights were. We start slower to save something for the big night, but once we start we do not stop. Beach games, surf, a volleyball tournament, pool time, sunset yoga on the viewing deck, and then everyone dresses in all white. A long dinner over the water, a huge bonfire and fireworks for the countdown.

SurfYogaBeer crew at sunset on the last night in Nicaragua
Day 6Reflection day

New year, new habits, saltwater therapy and the awards.

The full day

We wake up to a new year. A bit of recovery time, then straight into workouts, yoga and saltwater ocean therapy, plus reflection exercises to point the year somewhere useful. As the sun drops the mats come out for a deeper session, and this is where the magic actually happens. Last night together, so the awards, a proper feast, and we take it out with a bang.

SurfYogaBeer group walking the beach in Nicaragua
Day 7Back to reality

Check out at 8am, van to Managua, group chat forever.

The full day

Everyone checks out at 8am and takes the SYB van to Managua, so pick a flight that leaves after noon. Until next time, or until the next party, because this friendship only just started.

Every day is planned for you. Nothing to book, nothing to organise.

🛌Where you sleep

Six private villas on a jungle cliff, and the last sunset of the year right off the edge of your pool.

Home for the week is Villas Playa Maderas, six private villas on a jungle cliff about 100 feet above the sand, dead center of the Playa Maderas bay, with Maderas Rock sitting right in front of you.

Infinity pools hang over the Pacific, private stairs drop you straight onto the surf, and the monkeys cruise past the pools like they pay rent. This is where the pool parties get loud, where the crew crashes after the beach, and where you wake up to the ocean every morning. You unpack once.

FAQs

Because it’s one of the best ways to close out the year and start the next one.

You get the classic SurfYogaBeer week of surf, workouts, and good food, with a bigger crew and more energy.

Days are still active: mornings in the ocean, workouts, time to reset. The week builds through beach dinners and themed nights to the New Year’s Eve celebration.

You spend a full week with the group, so by the time NYE hits, you’re celebrating with friends.

All of our Nicaragua trips happen in the same place, but each one has a different focus.

Surf Camp is the most surf-focused option. You’ll still get workouts and group energy, but more time is dedicated to improving your surfing and being in the water.

SurfYogaBeer (classic trip) is the best balance. You get surf, workouts, yoga, social events, and a bit of everything.

New Year’s Eve (NYE) is our biggest, most high-energy trip of the year. Same core structure, but with a larger group, more parties, and a big focus on celebrating going into the new year.

Reset & Recharge is the most wellness-focused. Think slower mornings, more yoga, more recovery, and a bit less emphasis on nightlife. It’s still social, just more grounded.

No matter which one you choose, you’ll be staying in the same villas with the same team.

Yes, and a lot of people do, especially on the NYE trip.

You’re working out together, surfing together, eating together, and heading into nights out as a group, so it’s easy to meet people quickly.

By the time NYE hits, you’re not showing up to a party alone.

People who want a mix of movement, connection, and a good time.

Typically:

  • Late 20s to 40s (sometimes 50s)
  • Active, but not extreme
  • Social, open, and easygoing

It’s a very approachable crowd.

Yes.

There’s daily movement built into the week, including workouts, yoga, and surf sessions.

You’ll also have time to relax by the pool, hang at the beach, or take things slower when you need to.

Social, high-energy, but still balanced.

During the day, it feels like a classic SYB trip, workouts, surf, good food, and time to relax. As the week builds, the energy picks up with themed nights, beach dinners, and more going on around the group.

New Year’s Eve is the peak, but it never feels chaotic or forced. You can lean into it or keep things more low-key.

Everything is centered around Playa Maderas.

You’ll stay in a group of nearby villas just steps from the beach, with access to:

  • Surf breaks
  • Beach workouts
  • Town nearby

It’s one home base for the whole week.

With us, it is.

We’ve been running trips to Nicaragua since 2016 and have never had any safety issues. We work with the same trusted local team, drivers, and surf partners who know the area extremely well.

You’ll be staying in a gated villa community with 24/7 security, and everything from airport pickup to daily activities is organized in advance.

From the moment you land, you’re taken care of and moving as part of the group.

Yes.

We have a photographer and videographer on the trip, so you can stay present and still come away with great content from the week.

If you want to end the year in a social, active, and memorable way, then yes.

It’s a great fit if you:

  • Like being around people and meeting new friends
  • Want a mix of movement during the day and more energy at night
  • Are excited by the idea of spending New Year’s somewhere different

It’s probably not the best fit if you’re looking for a quiet, low-key reset or a fully independent trip.
