Summer's Hit The City!

Steph_travel1

Hola!! Steph here again!

I live in Mexico City, where it’s been *summer* since February, but I see on IG that summer has finally hit the streets of New York, the Ice Baths are Ice Bathing in Venice Beach and my friends in Boston are officially weekending in the Cape. Patio season, baby!!

But why does planning become so much harder in the summer?

I’ve been having conversations with friends at home who are feeling the stress/annoyance of planning summer weekends outside of the city. Is it just me, or does everyone feel like they are waiting on their friends to commit to plans? Whether it’s a laid back couple that loves their new backyard or a friend who is in their city girl/boy era, it’s hard to lock in dates in advance!

I GET IT. WE GET IT.

Over my time at/with SurfYogaBeer, I have had hundreds of conversations with people who just want to get out and explore, book the trip, see the world — but their friends at home are either settled down or difficult to plan with. We don’t want you to miss out on your life because of them.

We are a community of solo travelers.

And if you’ve never considered yourself a solo traveller before, SAME. Our trips are group experiences, there is nothing ‘solo’ about it. From the second you arrive, you are surrounded by like minded people who, like you, are the odd one out in the friend group this summer. We all just want epic travel experiences with cool people.

The SYB Demographics

One of the first questions I get all the time: who comes on our trips? I’m biased but I think we pull the coolest, most interesting people in the world. Ages range from late 20s to early 40s with our average age being 32. No, we are not a university party squad ... we’re a group of young/cool professionals.

Most people (near 90%) come alone. Everyone (100%) leaves our trip with incredible new friendships.

A few days ago, I was speaking with this girl who wanted to sign up for SYB Greece.

Her first question and biggest hesitation was that she didn’t have anyone to sign up with. After going over trip details with her, I took a look at who is currently signed up for Greece trip. I was excited to let her know (this is all by chance, btw) that we have multiple guests signed up from San Diego. She lives in Newport Beach. The thought of meeting a new group of ~local~ people her age and going on this epic adventure together made her sign up. ON THE SPOT! My kinda of gal!

I did SYB Greece in 2021 and met some of my best friends there.

Shoutout to Nikki B, Madison and Meag! All of us in our late 20s at the time, on the trip for different reasons and we created one of the closest bonds (sisterhood) that I could dream of. We still speak every week, always checking in and making fun lil trips to visit each other. Greece, 3 years ago was fun, but what’s even better is the friendships I have for life.

At the end of the day, we will never be this young again and opportunities to travel may be different in the future.

If you’re reading this and any bit resonates with you. From friends being lame at summer plans to craving an adventure with new, likeminded people? Take the trip! Get to know our community and what we offer here.

We are more than just 7 days abroad; we’re a community of amazing people that plans regular reunions, that supports you when you get a promotion or want to move across the country.

If you have the time this summer to get away ... this is your sign to just go for it. Orrrrrrrr, if you know you know, DON’T THINK JUST DO!
