SYB Run Club, New York City
Running this city
since 2016.
Ten years of Tuesday nights, and nobody has ever been left at the back. We run, we stop and do a workout while everyone catches up, we run again, and then we go and make a proper night of it. Uptown on Tuesdays, downtown on Wednesdays.
01 / The format
It is not the one
with the pacer.
You have seen the other kind. A pacer up front, a line of people strung out behind, and half the group quietly deciding they are too slow for this. That is not us.
Here we run together. Then we stop and do a bunch of workouts while everyone catches up. Then we run again, and stop and work out again. Heart always pumping, always engaging, and always a hilarious time. The fastest person in the group does more burpees, not fewer, and the slowest person is never running alone.
It is free, and it is staying free. No membership, no sign up, no app. Turn up at 7, say hi, run.
02 / Two nights, two neighborhoods
Pick your side
of town.
Every other Tuesday uptown, every other Wednesday downtown. Same format, same 7PM, completely different night out afterwards.

Tuesdays / Uptown

Wednesdays / Downtown

03 / The calendar
Every other Tuesday,
every other Wednesday.
Same cadence all year, 7PM every time. These are the next ones. Put them in your phone, because the night you talk yourself out of it is the night everyone else shows up.
Tuesdays
San Matteo, 1559 2nd Ave at 81st, Upper East Side
Wednesdays
Crompton Ale House, 159 W 26th St, Chelsea
04 / Before you come
Everything you
actually need.
NO. 01
Your pace is fine
There is no pace requirement because there is no pacer. If you are fast you will be doing squats while you wait. If you are not, you will never be the last one out there on your own.
NO. 02
Come straight from work
There is a bag drop at both venues, so bring your work bag and your jacket and leave them with us. Change inside, run light, come back to your stuff.
NO. 03
It really is free
No dues, no sign up sheet, no app to download. You pay for your own pizza and your own drinks afterwards, and that is the entire cost of being here.
NO. 04
Come by yourself
Most people do. Ten minutes into the first workout stop, standing next to a stranger doing the same burpees badly, you will not be by yourself any more.
05 / The afters
The run is the
excuse.
Nobody ever came back for the burpees. They came back for the hour after them.
Tuesdays, Upper East Side
Pizza, trivia, flip cup
- Proper Neapolitan pizza and panuozzi at San Matteo, which is built for big loud groups.
- Trivia, run by us, and the questions are not fair.
- Flip cup. Winners gloat, losers run faster next time.
- You pay for your own food and drinks. That is the only bill here.
Wednesdays, Chelsea
The bar, then karaoke
- 26 taps and 13 screens at Crompton Ale House. Stay as long as you want.
- Then six doors down to Sid Gold's Request Room at 165 West 26th.
- It is live piano karaoke, not a screen. You name the song, a real pianist plays it, the whole room sings the chorus at you.
- Grubstreet called it the best karaoke bar in New York. It is literally next door.
06 / The receipts
Ten years of
Tuesday nights.
Same city, same river, same people who said they were not runners.

Shot something good?
Tag #SYBRunClub
Put it on your story, tag @sybrunclub and use the hashtag. We reshare the good ones. Half the photos on this page came from someone's phone.
07 / Staying in the loop
There is nothing
to sign up for.
Just turn up. The run club has its own Instagram now, and that is where everything gets posted: the weather call, the route for the night, the photos from the last one and any change to the schedule.
Questions, or bringing a group of ten? Email dude@surfyogabeer.com
08 / And then
A lot of our trips
start right here.
People meet on a Tuesday in the cold, end up at the same table for pizza, and six months later they are on a boat in Croatia together. It happens constantly. It is basically the whole company.
