YOUR GUIDE TO KENYA
Welcome to the Wild
You didn't just book a safari; you officially unlocked a VIP pass to the heart of the Savannah, the SYB way. We are trading the Nile for the Great Rift Valley where the dust hits just as hard as our morning workouts. This is our high-energy African playground, featuring sunrise game drives, "Safari Zen" recovery, and a crew designed to help you find your wildest self.
🗓️ Detailed Itinerary
Don’t get too attached to the plans here... to improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often.
✈️ Arrival & Departure Details
To make sure your transition from the "real world" to the wild is as smooth as possible, follow these logistics:
The Pickup: Meet us at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) in Nairobi. We recommend arriving by 2:00 PM on Day 1 to catch the welcome cocktail and our first "shake out" workout at the Arboretum.
The Drop-off: We fly back from the Masai Mara to Nairobi on the morning of Day 7.
Booking Your Flight Home: We recommend booking your international departure for 8:00 PM or later on Day 7. This gives you plenty of time to land in Nairobi, grab a final celebratory meal at Cultiva Farms, and get to the airport without rushing.
The Shortcut: Your domestic flight from the Mara Airstrip to Nairobi is already included in your trip price—no need to book that leg separately!
Visa Info: Most travelers require an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) to enter Kenya. You should apply for this online at least 2 weeks before departure.
🤌🏽 Rules for the Trip
1️⃣ Your SYB leaders are your hype crew, support team, and problem-solvers all in one. If you need anything, big or small, go to them first.
2️⃣ Buddy system always. Whether we’re on the trails, in town, or dancing on tables, never wander off alone.
3️⃣ Save the blackout nights for another vacation. We’ve got packed epic days, you’ll want to be fully present for every second.
4️⃣ No drugs, no weed (yep, even if you think you’re “chill”).
5️⃣ Your energy is everything. Positivity is contagious, and your vibe truly shapes the group.
6️⃣ You must sign the waiver at www.surfyogabeer.com/waiver before arriving.
7️⃣ Please check-in with your details; flights, dietary needs, emergency contact, etc here: www.surfyogabeer.com/bookings
8️⃣ Travel insurance is mandatory. Make sure you’re covered before you go.
9️⃣ Respect the local culture and the environment. We’re guests here so let’s keep it classy and leave it better than we found it.
🔟 Be on time. Respect the schedule and your fellow adventurers. We run on good vibes, not island time.
🎒 Kenya Essentials: Packing List
Packing for a safari is all about Earth Tones & Layers. Unlike the Red Sea, the Savannah gets chilly at sunrise and dusty by noon. Stick to Khaki, Olive, and Tan to blend in and keep the bugs away.
✅ The Essentials (Admin & Safety)
Passport & eTA: Your passport must be valid for 6 months. You must apply for your Kenyan Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) at least 2 weeks before Day 1.
Travel Insurance: This is mandatory for all SYB Kenya travelers. Please upload your details to the booking portal.
Signed Waiver: Make sure yours is signed at surfyogabeer.com/waiver before you land in Nairobi.
Currency & Tech: Bring some Kenyan Shillings (KES) for small tips and a Type G (UK-style) power adapter.
Health: Pack high-quality bug spray (DEET) and any personal medications.
✅ The Gear (Clothing & Utility)
Safari Earth Tones: Pack lightweight layers in Khaki, Olive, or Tan. Avoid dark blue/black (attracts flies) and bright white (shows all the dust!).
Layers for Sunrise: It is chilly during 5:00 AM game drives. Bring a warm fleece or light jacket.
SYB Activewear: 3-4 workout sets for our Nairobi Arboretum sessions and "Safari Zen" recovery.
The Footwear: Comfortable sneakers for workouts and a sturdy pair of shoes for the Hell’s Gate bike safari.
Safari Utility: A wide-brim hat, polarized sunglasses, a reusable water bottle, and a power bank to keep your camera charged for the Big Five.
Theme Fits: Don't forget your "Safari Stylin'" outfit for our lakeside theme party!
🎉 Theme Parties
✅ Safari Stylin’ 🐆
This is our signature vibe. Think "Explorer Chic" meets the runway. Channel your inner Steve Irwin or go full high-fashion animal print. We are talking khaki button downs, leopard print silk, fedoras, and binoculars. We will celebrate by the fire at Lake Naivasha so make it wild.
✅ All White Affair ⚪
Our classic SYB tradition for the final night in the Masai Mara. Pack your favorite all white outfit to contrast against the deep greens and golds of the Savannah. It is clean, it is classic, and it looks epic in the group photo as we toast to an unforgettable week under the African stars.
*Nobody does theme parties like we do, so go big, get weird, and make it unforgettable.
☀️ What to Expect: Kenya Weather
Kenya sits on the equator, but our route through the Great Rift Valley and the Masai Mara means high altitudes and varied temperatures. You can expect warm, sunny days and crisp, cool nights.
✅ Day vs. Night
Daytime: Average temperatures hover around 75°F to 80°F. The sun is intense at this altitude, so high SPF and hydration are your best friends.
Early Mornings: Sunrise game drives are chilly, often dropping to 55°F. You will want that fleece or light jacket until the sun fully breaks.
The Elements: We adventure rain or shine. While June and July are typically dry, a passing "safari shower" is always possible and keeps the dust down.
🥘 Fueling in Kenya
Eating in Kenya is a mix of hearty local staples and fresh international cuisine. We start with 5 star spreads in Nairobi before heading to our luxury lodges. From bush breakfasts to lakeside dinners, we keep you fueled for high energy game drives and daily workouts.
✅ What is on the Menu
All Meals Included: We have you covered for 20 total meals across the week 🍽️.
Safari Breakfasts: Fresh tropical fruits, eggs to order, and Kenyan coffee or tea to kickstart the sunrise.
Bush Picnics: Gourmet lunches packed for our full day game drives in the heart of the Mara.
Lodge Dinners: Multi-course meals featuring grilled meats, fresh veggies, and local favorites like Ugali and Sukuma Wiki.
✅ Dietary Needs
Vegan & GF Friendly: Most meals are served buffet style with plenty of plant based and gluten free options.
Custom Prep: Our lodge chefs handle all allergies. Just make sure your booking portal is updated before we land.
