Bali vs. Croatia
for a Group Trip
Bali is the all-action sampler. Surf, jungle, islands, and a different adventure every day. Croatia is the big-summer social trip. One Adriatic home base, the biggest crew, and an actual pirate ship. Both are SYB flagships. Here's how to pick.
Pick Bali if you want maximum variety: surfing, padel, ATVs, jungle rafting, and a boat day with manta rays across Canggu, Ubud, and Nusa Penida. Pick Croatia if you want peak European summer, one Adriatic home base near Dubrovnik, the biggest and most social SYB crew, and a day on a 200-foot pirate ship. Bali is a five-stop itinerary. Croatia is one hotel you'll never want to leave. Same SYB energy, two totally different weeks.

Bali: The Do-Everything Trip
Bali Activated is the trip where everything is switched on. One day you're taking one-on-one surf lessons in warm turquoise water at Canggu. The next you're flying through the jungle on ATVs and rafting the Ayung River. Then you're on a boat to Nusa Penida snorkeling with manta rays, which is exactly as unreal as it sounds. Add padel lessons, a private villa with a proper gym, ice baths and saunas, and a takeover of Finns Beach Club, and you've got the most varied, packed week we run. This is the pick if you want to see five sides of one place and stay busy from sunrise to last call.
Croatia: The Big-Summer Social Trip
The Island Takeover is summer at full volume. You're based at one home, Grand Hotel Park in Lapad, steps from the Adriatic and right next to Dubrovnik's old walls. Because everyone's together on one island, it's our most social trip, with the biggest crew. The week stacks up kayaking to sea caves, hiking for those sweeping Adriatic views, a Dubrovnik Old Town tour, cliff jumping, and the legendary 200-foot pirate ship day (yes, an actual pirate ship, no, we will not be explaining). It all wraps with Black Tie by the Sea, so pack one outfit that says you have somewhere to be. This is the pick if you want European summer and the biggest group energy.
What They Share
Both are unmistakably SYB: daily fitness, yoga and recovery built in so you don't fully wreck yourself, pro photographers on the whole week, expert leaders, and a group that goes from strangers to family fast. On both, most people come solo, and you meet the crew before you fly, so you're never doing it alone. And both are fully handled. Accommodation, most activities, transport, and the plan are sorted before you land. You just show up.
Which One Is You?
A quick gut-check based on the week you're after.
Go Bali if…
- You want surf plus jungle, islands, and adventure
- You love variety, a totally different day each day
- You want a slightly smaller, do-it-all crew
- You're after an autumn escape or a big NYE
Go Croatia if…
- You want peak European summer on the Adriatic
- You want the biggest, most social SYB crew
- One beautiful home base beats living out of a bag
- A pirate ship and Black Tie by the Sea sound unreal
"Strangers on day one, family by the end of the week. Best group travel out there."
Bali vs. Croatia FAQ
Should I pick Bali or Croatia for a group trip?
Pick Bali for maximum variety: surfing, padel, ATVs, jungle rafting, and a manta-ray boat day across Canggu, Ubud, and Nusa Penida. Pick Croatia for peak European summer, one Adriatic home base near Dubrovnik, the biggest and most social SYB crew, and a pirate-ship day. Bali is the all-action sampler. Croatia is the big-summer social trip.
Which trip has the bigger group?
Croatia is the bigger trip, roughly 25 to 45 travelers, which makes it one of the most social trips we run. Bali is a slightly smaller crew of about 18 to 24. Both skew ages 25 to 45ish, and both are built so solo travelers plug into the group fast.
Does the Bali trip include surfing? Does Croatia?
Bali includes one-on-one surf lessons in warm water at Canggu, great for beginners. Croatia isn't a surf trip. The water activities there are kayaking to sea caves, cliff jumping, snorkeling, and a day on a 200-foot pirate ship along the Dalmatian Coast. If surfing is the priority, choose Bali.
When do the Bali and Croatia trips run?
Croatia (the Island Takeover) runs in peak summer, usually July and August. Bali Activated runs in autumn and winter, with October and November dates plus a Bali NYE trip (Dec 28 to Jan 3). So Croatia is your summer trip, Bali is your shoulder-season or holiday trip. Check the live calendar for current dates.
How much do they cost?
Bali Activated starts from $2,550 per person for 6 nights (Bali NYE from $2,850). Croatia's Island Takeover starts from $2,750 per person for 6 nights. Both include accommodation, fitness programming, most activities, photographers, and SYB leaders, and you can book with a 20% deposit and pay the rest later.
Can I come solo?
Yes, and most people do. On both trips you meet the group before you fly, then spend the week working out, exploring, eating, and going out together, so it quickly feels like you came with a crew. Solo travelers are the norm on SYB trips, not the exception.
