Dry Season, April to October

The offshore winds that make spots like Uluwatu, Canggu, and Padang Padang so good line up best in these months, so it is prime time if surf is on your list. The flip side: July and August are peak season, which means the best weather but also the biggest crowds and the highest prices. If you can swing it, aim for the edges of the dry season instead of the dead center.
Wet Season, November to March
Do not let the name scare you off. The wet season is greener, cheaper, and quieter, and the rain usually shows up as a short, warm afternoon downpour rather than an all-day washout. Mornings are often clear, the rice terraces go impossibly lush, and you get the island with way fewer people and better prices. The water stays warm the whole time. One factual heads-up: Nyepi, the Balinese Day of Silence, usually falls in March and shuts the entire island down for 24 hours, including the airport, so it is worth knowing if your dates land near it.
West Coast vs. East Coast Surf
