💬QUICK ANSWERS.

Is July a good time to visit Iceland?

Yes. June to August is the prime window: the midnight sun gives almost endless daylight, the weather is at its mildest and the highlands, mountain roads and hiking trails are open. It is also the busiest and priciest time of year.

What is the weather like in Iceland in July?

It is the mildest time of year, often around 50 to 60 Fahrenheit. The weather still changes fast, so bring layers and a rain shell.

Does it get dark in Iceland in July?

Barely. The midnight sun means almost endless daylight, so you can hike and chase waterfalls late into the evening.

Can you see the northern lights in July?

No. Summer is too bright. The northern lights need dark, clear nights, so the season runs roughly September to March.

When are SYB's Iceland trips?

Fire and Ice runs June 29 to July 4, 2027. Twice the Ice, a West and North expedition, runs the week before, June 22 to 28, 2027. For Fire and Ice, land at Keflavik airport (KEF) between 8 and 10am on Tuesday, June 29. The trip ends on Sunday, July 4 in Reykjavik. Four nights are at Midgard Base Camp on the south coast and the last night is in Reykjavik.

How much does it cost?

From $2,650 per person in a shared room, or $4,150 for a private room with its own bathroom. Flights are extra. A 20% deposit holds your spot and the balance is due six weeks before the trip.

How hard is the hiking?

It is one of SYB's more active trips, but it is not a race and you go at your own pace. The longest listed hike, Bláhnjúkur, is 5.4 miles with about 1,500 feet of climbing and takes around three hours. The Thorsmork hike has a long route and a short route.

What happens if I have to cancel?

Cancel more than 45 days before the trip starts and everything you have paid becomes trip credit, good toward any SYB trip within 12 months. Inside 45 days, payments are non-refundable. Travel and medical insurance is required.
