Full Guide
DO IT! We recommend that everyone comes on our trips alone. For most of us, the biggest takeaway from this trip will be the new people you meet, the new perspectives you see, and the amazing moments you share. Hanging out with awesome, likeminded people that are meeting you for the first time will remind you just how awesome you are. It may seem scary but we promise you, your amazing group of new friends and SYB leaders will be there for you the second you arrive.
GETTING THERE
Arrive to the Gruz Port on the north side of Dubrovnik at 1pm on August 26th. There you will be welcomed by the SYB crew and jump on the SYB speed boat to our island! This means you can arrive anytime before 12pm to Dubrovnik International Airport DBV because it usually takes around 20-30 minutes by Uber to get to the port.
LEAVING
We'll set up our boat transfer straight to the old town port of Dubrovnik and from there you can grab an Uber or taxi to the airport. Our boat have you arriving by 9:30am so that you can be at the airport by 10am.
*We also have a private shuttle service that can pick you up straight from the airport and take you directly to the island hotel for $140 up to 4 people.
Lopud (an SYB favorite) is home to LaFodia Sea Resort. This 4-star hotel is pure luxury, with seaside views & nature surrounding us. It is truly a unique experience!
This is a 4-star hotel so you can expect AC, WiFi, daily room cleaning, room service, safe, minibar, hair dryer, beach towels, bath towels, bath robes and even slippers.
LaFodia's private beaches gives us access to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Be ready to detox to retox!
As we begin this trip, we will meet in Dubrovnik and arrive at the city's only international airport, Čilipi Airport (DBV).
Dubrovnik is rich in history and culture, stunning architecture and picturesque landscapes. We get explore the historical Old Town Dubrovnik and venture out onto the Adriatic Sea in kayaks to experience the iconic underground caves.
Accessible by boat from Dubrovnik, Lopud, a small island off the coast of southern Croatia, is one of our favorite places. Lopud is known for its historic ruins located at the highest point of the island, and we will hike to explore the island's beauty.
We even venture onto the Adriatic Sea to see the islands on the stunning Dalmatian Coast. But, we can't forget Croatia's exquisite pebble beaches that are unique to the region.
After exploring the beautiful areas around Dubrovnik, we depart from DBV.
These are all levels, so even if you have never done some of these we have a full team ready to make sure you try something new and have fun doing it! But of course, they are all optional and we can always find ways to still enjoy Croatia to it's fullest!
We have a day in Dubrovnik where we've set up two different style tours. Option one is a Game of Thrones tour which explores all filming that was done there. Majority of the group opts for the GOT tour; it's dope. The other one is a historic tour of the city itself. Once the tours are done, you're free to roam the streets, shop around, eat all of the gelato before we meet back up for dinner.
After a late night, you may not want to wake up and join us for a workout, but we highly suggest it! Included in your trip, the boot camps and yoga sessions keep us energized - there is nothing better than waking up and sweating with your new friends! Our world-class trip leaders know how to start your day the best way, with a good workout to prime us for a day of adventuring.
This experience is included in trip fees.
No need to whip out your phone or camera at any point throughout this trip because we have got you covered. We will have a professional photographer and videographer joining us on this trip to capture every moment. These will be the best travel photos and videos you will ever get - you're friends better be ready for a photo dump out of their wildest dreams!!
We highly recommend you get travel and/or medical insurance. This is just for emergencies or unforeseen circumstances.
Kuna is the currency of Croatia, but Euros are widely accepted in the region, as are USD (but Euros are preferred).
Most credit and debit cards are accepted at most banks and hotels, and any non-franchised ATMs will not charge a transaction fee.
ATMs are widely available throughout Lopud (a quick walk from our hotel) and Dubrovnik, but we urge you to prepare and withdraw cash before the start of the trip!
We suggest bringing €300 to €400 to use at the beach bars and a few of lunches, but otherwise, we've got you covered! The average drink prices range from 14 to 24 Kuna, €6 or $8.
Part of the SYB lifestyle is enjoying fresh and local cuisines. Croatian cuisine takes influences from the Mediterranean, with seafood and fresh produce but also integrates simple strudels and schnitzels of Eastern Europe.
"Black Risotto," aka cuttlefish risotto, is a must-try! With its unique black color, this Croatian delicacy is common on the coast.
We get to have a few dinners at local restaurants, so get excited to explore local areas & indulge in the cuisines and culture!
Tap water in Croatia is excellent - some of the best in the world! We are perfectly safe to drink from the taps. However, if you leave Dubrovnik, try filtered or bottled water to be safe, as smaller townships have fewer regulations on their water.
Croatia is one of the safest countries in the world! The only significant risks we may experience are pickpockets or scammers in touristy areas.
Our accommodations will have safes for us to leave our valuables in, and we suggest leaving all important items in the safe while we are out exploring - but maybe keep your Yeezys and nice jewelry at home!
