THE SHORT VERSION:
Six days, five nights, two bases. Three nights in Voss, the adventure town, then two in Bergen for the finale. A private coach picks us up at the airport, and the big fjord day is a day trip from Voss.
THE DAY BY DAY:
Day one you land at Bergen Airport by 12pm. Our coach is waiting, bags go underneath and we head straight inland for an easy gorge hike on the edge of Voss. Check in at Scandic Voss, then the welcome dinner. The sun sets just after eleven.
Day two is water day. Mobility and yoga in the morning, then white water rafting with Voss Active. Downtime in the afternoon, then the Viking party.
Day three is the big one. The train up to Myrdal, then a 17km bike ride down the valley into Flam, or the Flam Railway if the snow has not cleared. Lunch in Flam, a fjord safari in the afternoon, then we take over the floating saunas. Back to Voss for dinner.
Day four we move to Bergen and go straight up the mountain: the Ulriken cable car, then the Vidden across the plateau to Floyen, the biggest hike of the week, with a shorter route for tired legs. An easy first night out in Bergen.
Day five starts late on purpose. Recovery yoga, free time around Bryggen, then a private takeover at 7 Fjell Bryggeri, one of the best craft breweries in Bergen. Closing ceremonies, the all white party and a bar crawl through Bergen to finish.
Day six is an easy morning and flights home out of Bergen.
Every single day is optional. Do all of it, or sleep in and meet us at lunch.
A lot of the activities are weather dependent. We line up a couple of options for each day and stay flexible, and the leaders pick the best plan on the day based on the forecast.
GETTING THERE:
Fly into Bergen Airport Flesland (BGO) on Monday 14 June and land by 12pm. Bergen connects easily through Oslo, Copenhagen, Amsterdam and London. Our private coach meets the group at the airport and takes us, and the bags, straight to Voss.
COMING HOME:
The trip finishes in Bergen on Saturday 19 June after breakfast. The airport is about 30 minutes away on the airport bus. Book a flight from the early afternoon, or add a night in Bergen and fly out on the Sunday.
BETWEEN TOWNS:
All of it is included. The airport coach, the move from Voss to Bergen, the train to Myrdal and the trip back from Flam. You never need to book or pay for transport once you are with us.
Yes, and Bergen rewards it. It is a proper little city, seven mountains around a harbour, the best fish market in the country, and Bryggen, the old wooden wharf, which is UNESCO listed.
Stay in Bergen on the Sunday night, then head back out to the airport by 12pm on Monday to meet the coach. It is about 30 minutes on the airport bus. Tell us once you are booked and we will send you the details, so you wake up in the right place instead of stepping off a plane straight into day one.
Plans change, we get it. Cancel more than 45 days before the trip starts and 100% of what you've paid, deposit included, becomes trip credit you can use toward any SYB trip within 12 months.
To reserve your spot, a 20% deposit is required. It goes toward your total, and the remaining balance is due six weeks before the trip starts.
If you cancel within 45 days of departure, your payment is non-refundable and non-transferable. No exceptions, and we do not offer cash refunds for any reason.
Travel and medical insurance is required, and you must secure it before joining the program. It's the best way to protect your investment if life happens. Worth it.
Western Norway, the fjord country between Bergen and Flam.
Voss is our home base for the first three nights. It is the adventure town an hour and a half inland, sitting between a lake and a gondola, where Norwegians go to raft, ride and jump off things.
Flam sits at the end of the Aurlandsfjord, an arm of the Sognefjord, right next to the Naeroyfjord, the narrowest fjord in the world. We spend our big fjord day there.
Bergen is where we finish. Wooden houses stacked under seven mountains, with a funicular and a cable car to get you on top of them, and a proper night out at the bottom.
Monday 14 June 2027 to Saturday 19 June 2027. Six days, five nights.
The trip starts at Bergen Airport at 12pm on the Monday, so land by then, and finishes in Bergen on the Saturday morning. Do not book a flight home before the early afternoon of Saturday 19 June.
Every breakfast is included, plus the welcome dinner in Voss and the brewery tasting at 7 Fjell.
The other meals are on you, on purpose. Half the fun of a Norwegian town is picking your own spot, and nobody wants to be marched into a group restaurant every single night.
Alcohol is not included beyond the brewery tasting. Norway is expensive for drinking, so budget for it. A beer out runs around 120 to 150 kroner.
Two bases, both central and both walkable.
Three nights at Scandic Voss, one of the biggest hotels in town, right next to the train station, with the lake out front.
Two nights at Citybox Bergen City, a modern, no fuss hotel in the middle of the city, a short walk from Bryggen, the harbour and the bar crawl.
A shared spot is a bed in a twin or triple share with another SYB traveller of the same gender. A private spot is a room to yourself.
Broken in hiking shoes or trail runners with real grip. This is the one thing you cannot fake.
A properly waterproof jacket. Not water resistant, waterproof. Western Norway is one of the wettest places in Europe and the weather turns fast.
Layers rather than one big coat. A fleece or light down mid layer, a warm hat and gloves, and something that dries quickly. Mid June on a ridgeline can be five degrees with wind even when the town below feels like summer.
Swimwear and a towel for the sauna and the cold plunge, sunglasses and sunscreen. The sun is up for nineteen hours and it burns.
A full packing list goes out in your welcome pack.
About as safe as travel gets. Norway sits at the top of almost every global safety and quality of life index, petty crime is rare, and the tap water and food standards are excellent.
The real risks here are outdoors, not human. Weather that changes fast, exposed ridgelines and cold water. That is exactly why every hike is led, why there is always a shorter option, and why we tell you what to pack. Follow your leaders and you will be fine.
Travel and medical insurance is required for this trip.
The currency is the Norwegian krone (NOK). Norway is close to cashless, so a card or your phone works everywhere, including trailhead kiosks and the smallest cafe in Flam. You do not need to carry cash.
Use a card with no foreign transaction fees, and when a terminal asks, always choose to be charged in kroner rather than dollars.
Norway is expensive. That is not a surprise, it is the country. Budget for every lunch, four dinners and drinks. A beer out is around 120 to 150 kroner and a casual lunch around 200 to 250.
Norwegian tap water is some of the best in the world and it is free everywhere. Bring a reusable bottle and fill it at the hotel, at the trailhead, at the station.
Up on the mountain you can drink from most running streams above the tree line, and your leaders will tell you which ones. It tastes better than anything you can buy.
Hydration is what keeps the energy up across back to back hiking days. Drink more than you think you need.
We take Norway on its own terms. Bryggen and the fish market in Bergen, the ride down from Myrdal into Flam, and a fjord safari out on the water.
The whole week is a little Viking coded. 7 Fjell, the Bergen brewery we take over for the afternoon, a Viking party, a floating sauna on the fjord and evenings where the light simply refuses to go away. Mid June gives you around nineteen hours of daylight and a sunset that runs towards midnight.
After a late night, you might not feel like getting up for a workout, but we highly suggest you do. Bootcamps and yoga sessions are included and keep the energy high all week. There’s nothing better than waking up and sweating it out with your new friends.
Our world-class trip leaders know exactly how to kickstart your day, setting you up for a full day of adventure. Personalized butt kicking and soul grounding are all part of the experience.
Personalized butt kicking and soul grounding is all included.
Absolutely, and we actually recommend it.This trip is your chance to show up as your truest, most adventurous self. No baggage, no expectations, no old routines. When you come solo, you open yourself up to deeper connections, new experiences, and a crew that becomes instant family. We totally get that it can feel intimidating at first but trust us, this is the best way to do it. Most of our guests come solo, and by day one, you won’t feel that way anymore.
Yes. You can leave your phone in your bag and stay present while a professional photographer and videographer capture every moment. From sunrise workouts to beach adventures and late-night laughs, you’ll get high-quality content without lifting a finger.
And yes, it’s all included in your trip. Your post-trip photo dump is going to break the group chat.
This experience is included in trip fees.
Yes. This is an active trip for people who like a bit of everything, not a trip for pros.
The biggest day is the Vidden hike above Bergen, four to six hours with a cable car doing the steep climb. The rafting is real white water but made for first timers, and the bike ride down to Flam is almost all downhill. Every day has an easier version, and every activity is optional.
If you can walk for a few hours and you are up for being a bit uncomfortable for twenty minutes at a time, you will be fine, and the views do most of the work.
Our leaders are trained for this. They carry the first aid kit, they know when to turn a group around, and they keep the energy high while making sure everyone feels safe and supported.
Somewhere in the middle. If you can walk for a few hours with breaks, you are good.
Day one is easy: about 5km through the Bordalsgjelet gorge on the edge of Voss, an hour and a half, mostly flat.
Day four is the big one, the Vidden from Ulriken to Floyen above Bergen. The cable car does the steep climb, then it is about 13 to 15km across a rocky mountain plateau, four to six hours with a picnic lunch and plenty of photo stops. It finishes with the funicular down into town, so no knee-killing descent.
Too much? There is always a shorter version, like a loop around the Ulriken summit and the cable car back down. Nobody gets dragged up a mountain and nobody gets left behind.
Bring shoes with real grip. That is the one thing you cannot fake.
It is proper white water, so expect to get soaked and scream a little, but it is built for first timers.
We go with Voss Active, who have been running these rivers for over 30 years. The river is graded class 4, which means real rapids, not a lazy float. You get all the gear, a safety briefing and a guide in every raft steering and calling the strokes. It is about 3 to 4 hours door to door, with 1.5 to 2 hours on the water.
What you need: be able to swim, be in average shape, and be sober that morning. The guides pick the stretch of river that is running right that day.
Nervous? Most people are before. Most people want to go again after.
No. It is the plan if the snow has cleared, and it is one of the best rides in Norway, but it is optional.
It is about 17km on a gravel road and almost all of it is downhill, so this is more braking than pedalling. The first stretch out of Myrdal is a set of steep hairpin bends, and plenty of people walk their bike down that bit. After that it is an easy roll through the valley past waterfalls.
Would rather not? Ride the Flam Railway down instead and meet everyone in Flam. If there is still snow on the road in mid June, the whole group takes the train.
No. The floating saunas are hot, the fjord is cold, and the plunge is completely up to you.
Most people do it once so they can say they did. Some people do it ten times. Either way you get the sauna, the view and the story.
