Can I spend Thanksgiving in Nicaragua with a group?

Yes. SYB runs two group trips at Playa Maderas over Thanksgiving 2026: November 21 to 26 and November 26 to December 1. Most people on them come solo.

How much does it cost?

From $1,950 per person in a shared room, or $2,650 for a private room with its own bathroom, for 5 nights. Flights are extra. Book more than six weeks before the trip and a 20% deposit holds your spot.

What is included?

The villas, airport shuttles, 5 breakfasts and 4 dinners, surf lessons, morning workouts, yoga, a catamaran day, a beach bonfire, a 30 minute massage, open bar at the villas, a photographer and your trip leaders. Flights, lunches, one dinner in town and insurance are not included.

Is there a Thanksgiving dinner?

Yes. The November 21 trip ends with a Friendsgiving dinner on its last night. The November 26 trip starts on Thanksgiving Day with a turkey dinner at the villas.

Which airport should I fly into?

Managua (MGA) if you can. It is about a 2.5 hour drive with no border. Liberia in Costa Rica (LIR) is about 3 hours plus a land border crossing. Land by 2:00 PM on arrival day for the group shuttle and book your flight home for 12:00 PM or later.

Do I need a visa for Nicaragua?

For most travelers no visa is required for short stays. You may pay a small entry fee on arrival and you need a valid passport. SYB sends exact details for your nationality after you book.

Do I need to know how to surf?

No. Surf lessons are included and coached to your level, whether it is your first time on a board or your hundredth.

What happens if I have to cancel?

Cancel more than 45 days before the trip starts and everything you have paid becomes trip credit, good toward any SYB trip within 12 months. Inside 45 days, payments are non-refundable. Travel and medical insurance is required.
