SURF TRIP
PACKING LIST
Heading off for a week of surf and sun? Here is exactly what to pack, what is already handled, and the stuff people always overpack but never use.
For a week-long surf trip, pack light and beach-first: swimwear, rash guard, reef-safe sunscreen, a quick-dry towel, sandals, a couple of casual evening outfits, and any personal meds. On a SurfYogaBeer trip the boards, surf gear, and yoga mats are provided, so you do not need to haul those. The water is warm, so a wetsuit is rarely needed. Think one carry-on of light layers, sun protection, and good vibes, not a giant suitcase.

In the Water
The beach kit you will live in. Pack two or three swimsuits (they never fully dry, so rotate), a rash guard or surf shirt to save your skin from board rash and sun, reef-safe sunscreen (SPF 30 plus, and reef-safe genuinely matters), and a pair of polarized sunglasses with a strap. Boards, leashes, and wax are provided on our trips, so leave the board bag at home unless you are bringing a favorite of your own.
On Land
Keep it casual and light. A few quick-dry tops and shorts, one or two nicer outfits for theme nights and dinners, a light layer for cooler evenings, sandals plus one pair of sneakers, and a reusable water bottle. Yoga happens daily and mats are provided, so just bring comfortable clothes you can move in. Most destinations are warm, so leave the heavy stuff behind.
The Small Stuff People Forget
The difference-makers: a quick-dry towel, a dry bag for the boat day to keep your phone safe, after-sun or aloe, any personal medications and basic first-aid, a power adapter for the country, and a portable charger. Bring a copy of your travel insurance. Photos are covered by our pro photographer, so you can leave the big camera and just bring your phone.
What to Leave at Home
The overpacking hall of fame: a giant suitcase (a carry-on is plenty for a week), a wetsuit (the water is warm on most trips, and we will tell you the rare exception), formal clothes, a hair dryer, and five pairs of shoes. When in doubt, leave it. You will spend the week in swimwear and a rash guard anyway.
Surf Trip Packing FAQ
What should I pack for a surf trip?
Pack light and beach-first: two or three swimsuits, a rash guard, reef-safe sunscreen, a quick-dry towel, sandals and sneakers, a couple of casual evening outfits, a dry bag, a power adapter, and any personal meds. A single carry-on is usually plenty for a week.
Do I need to bring my own surfboard?
No. On a SurfYogaBeer trip boards, leashes, wax, and surf gear are all provided. You only bring a board if you have a personal favorite you want to use.
Do I need a wetsuit?
Usually not. Most SurfYogaBeer destinations have warm water where a rash guard is enough. If a particular trip needs a wetsuit, we tell you in advance.
Is a yoga mat provided?
Yes. Yoga mats are provided on the trips, so you just need comfortable clothes you can move in.
What sunscreen should I bring?
A reef-safe sunscreen, SPF 30 or higher. Reef-safe matters because many surf destinations have coral and protected marine areas, and some places restrict regular sunscreen.
How much should I pack for a week?
Less than you think. A carry-on of light, quick-dry clothes, swimwear, and sun protection covers it. You will spend most of the week in beach gear, so resist the urge to overpack.
Pack a Carry-On. We've Got the Rest.
